Emirates Airline Edinburgh Sevens

Scotland’s 7’s team are in winning form following their success in London where they picked up the London 7’s Bowl.  The wins came against Portugal (26-0), Spain (17-19) and Kenya (21-19) in the close run Bowl Final.

With four members of the SPACE staff having been involved in rugby at the highest level, Edinburgh’s premier Sports’ Injury and Physiotherapy Clinic knows exactly how tough these events are on the players. And SPACE has firsthand experience of these tournaments with Directors Gregor Townsend and Nick Penny having played and skippered the Scotland Sevens.

Following the Bowl Final in London, Scotland head coach, Graham Shiel told reporters:

“It's great to go into the Edinburgh tournament having put in really strong performances in five from six games.  We have to take a lot of credit for that, feed of it and get ourselves back into shape so that next weekend we can compete against some very tough opposition.  The guys love that challenge, it’s what makes them tick.  What a fantastic stage at Murrayfield to be set for the final of the World Series and hope we can Scotland the nation proud”.

The Emirates Airline Edinburgh Sevens is the final stage of the 2010 – 2011 Sevens Series.  The Sevens Series started back in December 2010 in Dubai, followed by South Africa where Scotland won their first Bowl Final.  Next up was New Zealand and then onto the USA where Scotland won the second of their 3 Bowl finals.  The Hong Kong Sevens were followed by Australia, England and finally Scotland.     

This time last year Scotland won the Plate Title at the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7’s to finish fifth overall.  Their best ever finish at a World Series event.  Currently sitting 9th the Scotland 7’s team will now look to continue and improve on that position on home ground.
